The dial

Twelve triangles, five minutes each

The KOMPAS dial is called the Performance Layer Dial.

It is divided into 12 high-contrast triangular segments. Each segment covers 5 minutes, so the 12 segments together make one hour.

The design is inspired by the colour-coded sector clocks in RAF Fighter Command operations rooms during the Battle of Britain in 1940. On those clocks, each 5-minute triangle showed how fresh a plotted raid report was.

The RAF connection is historical inspiration for the dial layout. Read more on the history page.
